Our student Miss Ayonika Paul has represented India in the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, Brazil. She has won Gold Medal in National Rifle Shooting in 10 MTR held at chandigarh in 2016. Miss Ayonika Paul has been proudly awarded the Best Achiever in Sports 2016 by Pillai Group of Institutions in recognition of her outstanding accomplishments.

Receiption to Ayonika Paul on her maiden Olympics Debut at RIO 2016

Mahatma Education Society’s Pillai Group of Institution has organized a receiption on 27th June, 2016 to bid a fond cheerio to the Engineering student of the college and Ace Shooter and Common Wealth Silver Medallist Ayonika Paul, who will represent India in the Rio De Janeiro, Brazil – Olympics 2016 in the 10 meter Air Rifle Shooting Event. Ayonika a Post graduate student of Pillai College of Engineering is a student who is studying here for the last six years made us proud by becoming the first Olympian from the Pillai Group of Institutions.

The aim of this reception is to convey her all the best for Olympic debut at Rio-2016 from the teachers, staff and college / class mates of Ayonika. And in due course it also encourages our students to take up sports a serious profession.

Ayonika Paul is studying in Pillai College of Engineering from her under graduate engineering program start getting noticed by one and all during Asian Junior Rifle shooting championship where she won bronze medal at Kuwait during 2011.

Ayonika take up the sports Rifle shooting in her school days won her first medal in 2007 after she clinched a bronze at the international junior competition in Suhl, Germany. Since she has gone on to win multiple medals at the junior and senior level.

Today, Ayonika idolizes ace Indian shooter Abhinav Bindra even as they play on the same team. Ayonika an Indian international shooter, who competes in the 10 metre air rifle event won the silver medal in the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and also won Bronze in ISSF World Cup 2014 in Slovenia.

Ayonika’s presence in the college encouraged the college to build a Rifle shooting range named “Aim High” – at Dr. K. M. Vasudevan Pillai Campus and inspired many students to take up this excellent sporting event. The college now has the best team in Mumbai University with Individual Gold Medal and Team Silver. There are around 100 shooters training in the range from various streams at the campus.

On 29th January, 2016 was a proud day for all us as India secured their 11th Olympic quota from shooting when Ayonika Paul bagged the silver in women’s 10m air rifle event at the Asia Olympic qualifying competition. Ayonika Paul has been confirmed by the Selection Committee of NRAI to represent India at the Rio Olympics 2016.

We wish her “ALL THE BEST” – and sure that she will come out with Golden flying colours from the Shooting range of Rio-Olympics.
