PCE Won Prize in National Quiz Contest

ISHRAE (Indian Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) had arranged its Annual Exhibition ACREX 2013 at Mumbai from 7th to 9th March, 2013. As part of the event, the Annual National Student Quiz was conducted on 9th March, 2013. Firstly, in the morning there was an elimination written test in which 30 teams from all over India participated. Our College, having the Students Chapter, also participated. Each team comprised 2 students. Our College was represented by Bhavesh Uppal (B.E. Mechanical) and Vinit Wilson (T.E. Mechanical). The written test was of 1 hour duration comprising multiple choice questions.
Out of the 30 Teams, only 6 teams were shortlisted for the Final Round in the afternoon. Amongst the 6 teams, our College was one of the teams. This was in itself an achievement since it meant being in top 20% of the National Student Chapters and only team from Maharashtra. Subsequently the final round; called a QUEST was conducted with a lot of fanfare and professionalism. The format of the Quiz was on the lines of a similar program conducted in Hollywood; with celebrities being part of the Quiz. In this particular case the celebrities were four senior ISHRAE / ASHRAE officials.
bhavesh-and-vinit-2Each Team was asked questions on topics ranging from AC and R Equipment, Space, Acoustics, Pumps, IAQ and Energy Conservation and Control Systems. At the end of all the 6 teams’ questions, it so happened that for the 3rd place our College Team and the team from Chennai were tied at 35 points. Hence there was a tie-breaker and with an exciting finish, our Team won the Tie-Breaker and thus won the 3rd Prize which carried a trophy and a cash award of Rs. 30,000/-.
